Naturalist Walk – Abbott’s Creek Trail – Raleigh

River Hawks, a local chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, is hosting a Naturalist Walk on the Abbott’s Creek Trail.
Naturalists Walk, March 22 at 9:30 on the Abbott’s Creek Trail, a connector to the Neuse River Trail. This trail features a series of long, elevated boardwalks through natural wetland habitats. This area is home to one of the largest areas of spicebush in our area. They should be blooming in March. The wetlands are home to a variety of reptiles and amphibians, and to a large heron rookery. Numerous woodpecker and nuthatch species nest in this area, including the uncommon red-headed woodpecker. A variety of early spring wetland trees, shrubs, native plants and wildflowers can also be seen.
From Falls of Neuse turn at light on Dunn Rd. (near Bedford) go until it ends through the roundabout. It dead ends. The address to the last house at the dead end for GPS purposes is 2498 Dunn Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614. Park on the side of the road, carpool if possible.
