Wild on the Water Paddle Event – Huntersville
June 3 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am
“There is no rushing a river. When you go there, you go at the pace of the water and that pace ties you into a flow that is older than life on this planet. Acceptance of that pace, even for a day, changes us, reminds us of other rhythms beyond the sound of our own heartbeats.”
— Jeff Rennicke, River Days
Wild on the Water and the North Carolina Wildlife Federation is calling all paddlers to help raise funds for wildlife conservation. This unique event is being held Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 (rain or shine).
Check-In will begin at 8:45am at Mecklenburg County’s Latta Plantation Nature Preserve. (If you have paddled with us before, please note this event will start and finish at the previous lunch location). The paddle will begin around 9:30am and conclude around 11:30am.
Connect with Nature – With our leisure paddle along the shores of Mountain Island Lake, we’ll watch for Yellow bellied Siders, Great Blue Herons, Red tailed Hawks, Kingfishers, and visit an active nest of Osprey. We’ll also hear special presentations about the lake and its inhabitants from area specialists.
Lunch will be provided. Then we will raffle all prizes after lunch. Participants may pay a $50 registration fee or raise the funds through donations. All paid registrations include one chance in the raffle drawings. For every $100 raised or donated, another raffle ticket goes in the drawing ($100 = 1 ticket, 2100 = 2 tickets, $300 = 3 tickets, $400 = 4 tickets…)
Prizes include a kayak from Great Outdoor Provision, Co., ENO hammock, REI goodie pack, USNWC passes, and more to come.
