The North Carolina Wildlife Federation is hosting its 10th annual Canoe & Kayak-a-thon on Mountain Island Lake on June 7th to raise awareness of the watershed and funding to support wildlife conservation and habitat protection. Paddlers will participate in the 7-mile event on Mountain Island Lake as part of the Federation’s “connecting people to nature” campaign. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation donates canoes and kayaks for those individuals who do not have a boat and Duke Energy volunteers help unload and load boats in the morning and afternoon as well as providing safety boats.
Paddlers who raised money for the Federation are eligible for incentive prizes. Due to the generosity of the event sponsors, 100% of monies raised by the paddlers have gone to conservation of wildlife conservation and habitat protection.
The GRAND prize is a Perception Impulse kayak provided by the Great Outdoor Provision Company.
Registration is $50.00 but if you raise $100.00 or more in sponsors then your registration fee is waived.
